The project is to develop an allotment and community garden at Lanhydrock, near the National Trust House. New access will be created, and cycle racks will be provided. Funding is for fencing, community shed and pathways.
The project will lead to a reduction in food miles, encourage organic gardening principles, encourage schools and other local groups to get involved in gardening and growing food and understanding where food comes from. The project will demonstrate how gardening can be used as a sustainable form of exercise and recreation, and promote gardening’s role in promoting health and social welfare.
The community space will demonstrate how wildlife areas and recycling can be incorporated into productive or ornamental gardens, as well as gardening and food growing techniques. The Allotment Association will work with other organisations to provide training and hands on experience in gardening activities.
It is hoped 50 individuals and 5 organisations will be provided with the opportunity of having an allotment. Ten people will be trained.
