Charles Wharton Ltd farms have been approved and RDPE grant of up to £88,038 towards total project costs of up to £220,094 to fund the construction of a 45,460 m3 synthetically lined reservoir plus distribution main and associated pumps at Filby, Gt Yarmouth. This will supply water to 274 acres of potatoes, 80 acres of lettuce, 208 acres of blackcurrants and 25 acres of mint. With this funding the project is expected to improve profitability of the business and safe-guard 10 full-time and 6 seasonal jobs. The outcome will also be to reduce pressure on the environmentally sensitive Broads National Park, by enabling abstraction to be limited in summer months.
